The city was incorporated in 1917, and at that time, eight men and a fire chief formed a volunteer fire department. On November 24, 1947 a paid fire department was established with six members and Donald Farrar was appointed the Fire Chief. In March of 1974, the Department initiated the paramedic program which continues to provide emergency medical services to residents and visitors of El Segundo. For over 90 years the El Segundo Fire Department has pledged its service to the community, taking pride in our history and the city we serve.
