City-Provided Trash and Recycling Service (Single-Family Residences)

Currently, the City of El Segundo provides free residential trash and recycling collection to residential properties of 4 and fewer units. Residents may use their own containers, and the City’s current hauler, Republic Services, will provide one 32-gallon container or two 16-gallon containers for recyclables.  Additionally, residents have the option to use their own trash containers as recycling bins by affixing a “Recyclables Only” sticker on those containers/bins, which Republic will also provide at no charge.

For an update on what’s in store for residential solid waste collections please visit: https://www.elsegundo.org/news/displaynews.asp?NewsID=3075&TargetID=1

For questions regarding your current service please call the Public Works Yard at 310.524.2709.

For safe and efficient service:

  • Place all trash and recyclables inside containers.
  • Place containers curbside by 7 A.M. and return containers to private property on same day of collection.
  • If you choose to use your own container for recycling, make sure the “Recyclables Only” sticker is visible for the driver when the container is set out for collection.
  • Container capacity cannot exceed 45 gallons or weigh more than 60 pounds. Click here for a reminder about container size.
  • Refuse collection is for household refuse only. Do not place the following items in your container: dirt, sod, rock or other debris from construction work, hot ashes (take these items to the transfer station at 1449 W.
