El Segundo registered voters vote on the first Tuesday, after the first Monday, in November of even numbered years. The next General Municipal Election will be November 3, 2026. As a reminder, the voting date has changed and now aligns and consolidates with the statewide California general election, per a change in the statewide elections code. The City Council establishes policies and responds to the needs and concerns of constituents:

Roles and responsibilities:

• Review, approve and adopt an annual budget that establishes City services and service levels
• Establish tax rates, license fees, assessments, franchises and other forms of revenue as defined by Government Code
• Oversee development of the City by adopting a General Plan and supporting the Zoning Code
• Authorize contracts and leases and manage the disposition of City real and personal property

The City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the City Hall Council Chamber, located at 350 Main Street, El Segundo, CA 90245. Open session begins at 6:00 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

Anyone who wishes to speak on a matter of City interest is invited to attend a City Council meeting and speak during the Public Communications portion of the meeting.

The City Council appoints two officials, the City Manager and the City Attorney. The City Manager's office implements the policies established by the City Council. The City Attorney oversees legal matters for the City and acts as general counsel.
