The Building and Safety division of the Community Development Department ensures the health and welfare of the residents of El Segundo by regulating the construction and occupancy of buildings. Today's codes are possible because of the efforts and the collaboration of building officials and key segments of the construction industry. Compliance with building standards are met through plan review, permit issuance and on-site inspection.

What we do:  

Plan Check

Plan Check ensures a project meets code requirements and is safe before construction starts. It done by processing permits and reviewing code compliance for structural, architectural, grading and fire safety, as shown on submitted plans. This service saves the builder from costly mistakes that can be made during construction and lends the additional expertise of a construction professional to the project.

Building Inspections

Inspection ensures that the work conforms to the permit, local codes and submitted plans.

Building inspections are conducted Monday - Friday, with the exception of holidays

Hours of Inspection:
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Please call the inspection request hotline at 310-524-2379 and leave a message before 11:59 p.m. to be placed on the inspection schedule for the next day. Please note that if you call on a non-business day (Saturday or Sunday) you will be scheduled for the next business day.

Allowable Construction hours:

Monday through Saturday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday or Legal Holidays: No work allowed.

Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement is responsible for enforcement of the Municipal Code including zoning/land use, property maintenance and building standards. The Code Enforcement Section protects life, safety and property through the enforcement of codes and standards for the maintenance and regulation of property and structures in the city.
